STOCKHOLM 19 June 2019 – The Diplomatic Spouses’ Club of Stockholm (DSCS) organized an International Traditional Fashion Show held at Musikaliska, a musical palace built in 1878 on 03 June 2019.

The event was ably headed and coordinated by the DSCS President, Madam Reem Maguid Amin Ahmed, wife of Ambassador Alaa Mohamed Salaheldin Hegazy of the Egyptian Embassy in Stockholm.

The Philippine Embassy in Oslo’s participation was led by Ambassador to Norway Jocelyn Batoon-Garcia modelling the elegant baro at saya made from the delicate pineapple fiber fabric. The other models of the Embassy wore attires from ethnolinguistic groups including the colorful garments of the Kalinga, the Tboli, the Maguindanaw and Maranaw people.

This is the first time for DSCS to organize an international fashion show, which aims to showcase the many beautiful traditional attires and cultures of the respective countries of the diplomatic corps in Sweden to the local Swedish and international communities.

The various missions accredited to Sweden gave their full support with 46 Embassies and Consulates joining the activity. The fashion show amazed the audience with all the participants showcasing a kaleidoscope of costumes and intricately woven textiles accompanied by music and dances.

The Embassy was assisted in the preparations by the Philippine Trade and Investment Center Representative in Sweden Mary Borromeo-Hedfors and Ms. Ivee Blossom Hedvig from the Stockholm Filipino Community, in coordination with the Embassy Cultural Officer Eva Margie San Miguel.

The participants gave a jovial rendition of ABBA's "Dancing Queen" after all countries paraded their colorful attires with the models waving their respective flags. After the Fashion Show, everyone was treated to a Traditional Food Festival with delicious recipes from the participating countries. END
