STOCKHOLM 19 June 2019 — Filipina women are known for their beauty and grace.  But in Stockholm, five artists showed that Filipinas are not only physically beautiful but can also create things of beauty.

Filipina artists Aya Sunga Askert, Helen Svendgard, Maria Nanette del Rosario, Emelia W. Eklund and Mayline Tano Blomberg held an art exhibit at Gallery Movitz at Horsgatan 40, Stockholm. With its unassuming atmosphere, Hornsgatan is emerging as one of Stockholm’s unofficial art quarters with its small, independent galleries that display works of local artists.

The artists’ media in the exhibit are as varied as their personalities. Ms. Askert explored the fragility of humankind through sculptures and assemblages, while Ms. Svendgard uses nature’s sceneries as inspiration for both paintings and photography. For her part, Ms. Del Rosario shows her art using a mixture of clay and acrylic. She also uses charcoal in some of her drawings.

Ms. Eklund expressed her affinity to nature through her photographs, while Ms. Tano Blomberg displayed her photographs of the Höga Kusten and Värmdö.  Höga Kusten is in the Ångermanland province of north eastern Sweden. This is a United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO) World Heritage site for its unique and highly scenic land and seascape and its distinctly red Nordingrå granite cliffs and rocks. Värmdö on the other hand, is a municipality in Stockholm County in east central Sweden.

The artworks were on display  from 31 May 2019 to 06 June 2019. END
