PH Participates in Belt & Road International Food Expo in Hong Kong

HONG KONG 26 June 2019 – The Philippines participated in the Belt & Road International Food Expo (Hong Kong) (BRIFE) 2019 and in the Belt & Road Agrifood & Trade Summit held at the AsiaWorld-Expo, Hong Kong on 11-13 June 2019.
Fifteen exhibitors from the Philippines participated in the three-day event as follows: VFC Condiments International Corp, MFP Home of Quality Food Corp., Destileria Limtuaco & Co., Inc., Eng Seng Food Products, MagicMelt Foods Inc., JNRM Corporation, Gustazo Alimentos Corporation, Team Asia Corporation, Lick the Spoon Gourmet Foods Inc., See’s International Food Mfg. Corp, Chi Su Taro Trading and Services, Inc., Doxo Trading, Greenlife Coconut Products Philippines, Inc., Starkaffea Corporation, and Marigold Manufacturing Corportion (Mama Sita’s).
Consul General to Hong Kong Antonio A. Morales and Trade and Industry Assistant Secretary Angelo B. Taningco participated in the opening ceremony of BRIFE on 11 June 2019. The Consul General and Assistant Secretary Taningco visited the booths of the Philippine exhibitors.
The event was organized by the FMC Exhibition Co., Limited and co-organized by China Agriculture Exhibition Association managed by the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Affairs of the People’s Republic of China.
BRIFE is the first agri-food exhibition among the Belt & Road region under the theme “Steering World Food Industries to New Opportunities.” It is aimed at promoting prosperity and development of trade and business procurement, technical capacity enhancement, investment cooperation, project docking, and the like, of Belt & Road Region and worldwide.
The three-day exhibition event is intended to promote the role of the Belt & Road as a platform to exhibit agricultural and food products from Belt & Road countries for purposes of trade and investment. The Philippine exhibitors found the event as a good opportunity to launch their products before the Hong Kong and Chinese markets and before other Belt & Road countries. They praised Hong Kong’s role as a “super-connector” of businesses and markets.
Assistant Secretary Taningco presented during the Agrifood & Trade Summit the implications of the Belt & Road project on Philippine businesses. He also gave a briefing on “Food Philippines Market Access and Food Products?” and met with relevant officials from the Hong Kong Trade Development Council (HKTDC) and the BRIFE organizers. END
