13 March 2014- At the 2014 New South Wales (NSW) Premier’s Multicultural Media Awards held on February 14 , Ms. Millie Marcial-Philips, publisher of print and online Filipino community publication, “Ang Kalatas”, received from NSW Premier Barry O’Farrell and Minister for Citizenship and Communities Victor Dominello the Award for Best Online Publication of the Year.
The awards ceremony, which saw 110 entries vying for 13 different categories in print, radio, TV and online media, showcased the social awareness and technical innovation of NSW’s multicultural media and was organized by the NSW Community Relations Commission.
Last year, “Ang Kalatas” received the 2013 Migration Advocacy Awards (Print Journalism Category: Newspapers) from the Commission on Filipinos Overseas (CFO). “Ang Kalatas” also received the 2013 NSW Premier’s Multicultural Media Award for Best Use of Online and Digital Media.
On March 5, 2014, the “Ang Kalatas” team called on Consul General Anne Jalando-on Louis. She congratulated Ms. Philips on the recognition received by the publication from the CFO and the NSW Government. Ms. Philips was accompanied by Ms. Marilie Bomediano Eftikarhashtroudi, writer/contributor, and Mr. Ramon Carpo and Ms. Nilda Carpo, both from Radyo Agila which nominated “Ang Kalatas” for the 2013 CFO Migration Advocacy Media Award. Consul General Louis acknowledged the team’s hard work and perseverance, having grown and garnered recognition despite the challenges of sustaining the newspaper in both print and online formats.
Consul General Louis urged Ms. Philips to continue to feature developments on the Philippines as well as the programs of the Consulate, and noted the role that “Ang Kalatas” play in disseminating relevant information to the Filipino community. END
