PRAGUE 26 June 2019 - The Philippine Embassy in Prague joins the 4th Festival Ambasád Food and Culture held at the Farmers Market in Prague on 08 June 2019.
The Philippine booth, represented by Filipino concessionaires My Pinoy Store and Pinoy Asian Market, sold Filipino delights such as fresh mangoes, saging na saba (banana plantain), lumpiang shanghai, dinuguan, bistek tagalog and other Filipino sari-sari store items.
Always a bestseller, the Filipino pork barbeque, which were grilled on-site, had the market-goers line up at the Philippine booth. A surprise hit was the sale of the langka (jackfruit) which were cut open in front of customers. Five big jackfruits, weighing around 15 to 20 kilos each, were sold within two hours. Also a hit was the balut, which a lot of market-goers were brave enough to try.
The Embassy also gave away tourism promotional materials such as destination brochures, pens, ID holders and USBs. Cultural performances from the diplomatic community and other several foreign music and dance performers provided entertainment to the more than 15,000 visitors of the event.
Borne from the successful ASEAN Food Festival which was held from 2013 to 2015, the festival was established in 2016 to include more embassies to participate. The festival is organized by the Municipality of Prague 6 in cooperation with the Farmers’ Market in Kulaták and held under the auspices of the Czech Chamber of Commerce.
The Festival showcases cuisine and local products from all participating embassies. This year, around 40 embassies participated in the event.
Next year’s festival is scheduled on 6 June 2020. END
