158th Birth Anniversary of PH National Hero Celebrated in Ottawa
PHOTO: The Knights of Rizal-Gatineau Chapter celebrated the 158th birth anniversary of Philippine national hero Dr. Jose Rizal on 19 June 2019 in a solemn program at Gatineau City Hall, where a bust of the Philippine national hero is found in its Hall of Nations.
Flowers were laid before the bust by Philippine Heritage Foundation of Canada (PHFC) Chair Dr. Ruby Formoso, Gatineau Chapter Commander Alfredo Formoso, and Philippine Embassy in Ottawa Deputy Chief of Mission Francisco Noel Fernandez III.
Chapter Commander Formoso propounded history questions concerning the national hero to promote knowledge of Dr. Rizal. Deputy Chief of Mission Fernandez recalled the call of Dr. Rizal for overseas Filipinos to promote their knowledge and Filipino heritage to the younger generation. Dr. Formoso spoke on the contribution of the national hero to Filipino history.
The winners of the 1st Dr. Jose Rizal Bursary award read their winning essays before the program closed with the singing of an original song of Rizal composed by PHFC. A fellowship pot-luck dinner concluded the celebration.
