President Duterte, Thai Prime Minister Mark 70 Years of Diplomatic Relations

BANGKOK 02 July 2019 – President Rodrigo Roa Duterte and Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha marked 70 years of diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Thailand at the sidelines of the 34th ASEAN Summit held in Bangkok on 20-23 June 2019, exchanging special commemorative stamps jointly issued by the Philippine Postal Corporation (PhilPost) and Thailand Post Company Ltd (ThaiPost).
The commemorative stamps featured the Philippine carabao and the Thai elephant, representing not only the strength and perseverance of the Filipino and Thai peoples, but also the enduring ties between the two countries.
The meeting between the two leaders was held at The Athenee Hotel and attended by Cabinet Ministers and officials from both sides. ThaiPost Vice President Wiboon Sereechaiporn was also present to witness the event.
It was on 14 June 1949 when the Treaty of Friendship was signed in Washington D.C., establishing diplomatic relations between the Philippines and Thailand. END
