PHOTO: In keeping with the National Commission for Culture and the Arts (NCCA)’s theme “Mga Pinuno Para sa Pamana” (Leaders for Heritage), the Philippine Embassy in Beirut organized a folk dance training for Filipinas in Lebanon, dubbed “Pinoy Zumba”.

“Pinoy Zumba” is the Embassy’s take on the popular group aerobic fitness workout Zumba with a Filipino touch and flair.

More than 80 ladies from the Embassy and various overseas Filipino workers (OFW) groups learned Filipino folk dances Itik-Itik and Polka sa Nayon. They were later awarded training certificates after three Sunday sessions held on 12, 19 and 26 May 2019 at Hooligans Sports and Leisure Complex.

Aside from educating and fostering awareness of Philippine cultural heritage such as our dances, the Embassy also took the celebration of the National Heritage Month as an opportunity to gather and encourage involvement in Embassy activities of Filipinas living and working in Lebanon.

To celebrate their successful training, the Embassy put to task the Pinoy Zumba participants to showcase their dance talents, as well as the Filipino folk dances in traditional dresses during the joint celebration of Philippine Independence Day and Migrant Workers’ Day.

Said celebration was held on 09 June 2019 with some 2,000 OFWs and Lebanese guests in attendance. (Beirut PE photo)
