PH Permanent Representative to UN Environment Programme Meets with UNEP New Executive Director

NAIROBI 04 July 2019 –Ambassador to Kenya and Philippine Permanent Representative to the United Nations Environment Programme (UNEP) Alex G. Chua met with the new UNEP Executive Director Inger Andersen at the sidelines of the UNEP Asia-Pacific Group Meeting on 19 June 2019 at the UN Office in Nairobi.
Permanent Representative Chua assured the support of the Philippines to UNEP and its willingness to collaborate in whatever capacity to achieve the organization’s goals. Executive Director Andersen thanked Permanent Representative Chua, and commented that it is more crucial now than ever that the world place higher importance on the environment since we are at a point where what we do will impact the future of our planet.
Executive Director Andersen was the former International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) Chief Executive Officer before assuming to her current position.
The members of the Asia-Pacific group expressed their hope and encouragement to Executive Director Andersen to bring her vibrant and fair type of IUCN leadership to UNEP, and for UNEP to be a more results-oriented UN agency.
UNEP is the foremost authority on environment within the United Nations. Recently, it held the fourth United Nations Environment Assembly on 11-15 March 2019 in Nairobi, with the attendance of almost 5,000 delegates from 179 countries, including five Heads of State. END
