BRASILIA 05 July 2019 — The annual ASEAN Food and Cultural Festival (AFCF) was held on 22 June 2019 at the grounds of the Indonesian Embassy in Brasilia.

The seven ASEAN embassies in Brasilia, namely the Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Singapore, Thailand and Vietnam, put up food booths offering authentic ASEAN cuisine as well as booths displaying native products from their respective countries.

Demonstrations of pencak silat from Indonesia, muay thai from Thailand and the Indonesian dance Poco-Poco entertained the crowd.

Meanwhile, the “Kingdom Musicians” composed of Filipino missionaries belonging to The Kingdom of Jesus Christ: The Name Above Every Name performed popular Brazilian, Filipino and western music to the delight of the guests.  Due to popular demand, the Kingdom Musicians graciously played for the crowd long after the program had been officially closed.

A total of 1,502 guests attended the AFCF, according to the Indonesian Embassy. As in previous years, the Philippine booths were among the most popular.

The AFCF is among the most keenly anticipated events in Brasilia’s social calendar. It is the only food and cultural festival organized by a regional bloc of embassies in Brazil. END
