BANGKOK 10 July 2019 – Ambassador to Thailand Mary Jo A. Bernado-Aragon joined officials from the National Museum of the Philippines and Museum Siam on 04 July 2019 at the opening ceremony of the Hibla ng Lahi Traveling Exhibition entitled “Piña-Seda, Pineapple and Silk Cloths from the Tropics.”

The exhibition, featuring a lecture series, weaving demonstrations and embroidery workshops, is a joint project of the National Museum of the Philippines (NMP) and the Office of former Senator Legarda. The Bangkok staging was made possible through the cooperation of the National Discovery Institute (Museum Siam) in Bangkok.

The traveling exhibition highlights the unique qualities of the piña cloth and the efforts of the NMP to preserve and promote the weaving practices of the country’s traditional textiles, and also to promote Philippine artistry.

Piña-seda weavers from Balete in Aklan and piña-seda embroiderers from Lumban in Laguna are also featured in the exhibition, demonstrating their weaving and embroidery skills.

The exhibition is housed at Museum Siam in Bangkok and will run until 27 July 2019. END
