 PH Consulate General in Xiamen Commemorates Rizal’s Birth Anniversary

JINJIANG 12 July 2019 — Philippine Consul General to Xiamen Julius Caesar A. Flores led a solemn wreath laying rite at the Rizal Memorial Shrine in Jinjiang City, Fujian with officials from the Foreign Affairs Office of Jinjiang Municipal People’s Government (FAO Jinjiang) headed by its Director General Chen Ling on 19 June 2019 in commemoration of the 121st Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence and the 158th Birth Anniversary of Dr. Jose Rizal.

The ceremony was followed by a visit to Dr. Rizal’s ancestral home in Shangguo Village, where Consul General Flores turned over a collection of old photos of the Filipino national hero donated by Tawid Heritage Center, the Consulate General’s cultural diplomacy partner, to Dr. Rizal’s Chinese descendants to form part of its memorabilia collection.

Xin Shang Fang Association head Ke Wentan received the said donation and expressed appreciation to the Consulate General.  The group is composed of Dr. Rizal's Chinese descendants. 

Consul General Flores also expressed appreciation to Jinjiang City government and underscored its vital role in maintaining and preserving the Rizal Memorial Park regarded as the enduring symbol of friendship and understanding between the Philippines and China.

Consul General Flores also bares plan with FAO Jinjiang to organize a visit of Dr. Rizal’s Chinese descendants to Dr. Rizal's birthplace in Calamba City, as well as committed to support the Association’s showroom project.

Also in attendance were some members of the Filipino community, SM Jinjiang representatives and Consulate General officers and staff. END
