PH Ambassador Joins Annual Tri-City Filipino Community Summer Gathering

INGLESIDE 19 July 2019 – Ambassador to Canada Petronila P. Garcia, together with Philippine Embassy in Ottawa Minister and Consul General Alan L. Deniega, attended the annual summer gathering of the Filipino community from Montreal, Ottawa and Kingston, dubbed as Tri-City events on 07 July 2019 at St. Lawrence Park, Woodland Beach and Picnic Area, Longsault Parkway, Ingleside in Ontario.
In her speech, Ambassador Garcia acknowledged the Filipino-Canadian Association of West Island (FCAWI) as the prime mover of the Tri-City events, which was initiated in the late 70’s. It has since been the venue of bringing together many organizations from Montreal, Ottawa and Kingston for day of sports, entertainment, and the traditional Filipino style salu-salo.
Ambassador Garcia also noted the successful celebration of the 121st Anniversary of the Proclamation of Philippine Independence and the Canada-wide commemoration of Filipino Heritage month held in June 2019. She highlighted the valuable contribution of the Filipino Canadians in the development of Canada, thereby encouraging to join the Embassy in commemorating the 70 years of Philippines-Canada Bilateral relations by being the best Filipinos that they can be: hardworking and law-abiding.
There are 931,000 Filipinos all over Canada, making it the home of the second largest Filipino diaspora in the world. END
