KUALA LUMPUR 22 July 2019 — The Philippine Embassy in Kuala Lumpur greeted Hari Raya with the spirit of giving and fellowship in a celebration held jointly with the Union of Muslim Filipinos in Malaysia (UMFM) on 07 July 2019 at the Rumah Bakti Dato’ Harun Orphanage Education Organization in Selangor.

A total of 106 attendees, comprised mostly of orphans as well as orphanage staff, UMFM officers, and Embassy officers and staff, shared a hearty luncheon to commemorate the end of Ramadan.  This was followed by a simple program where the children and UMFM officers performed song numbers and participated in games.

In his remarks, Ambassador to Malaysia Charles C. Jose noted that the event is not only an opportunity to celebrate the Philippines’ and Malaysia’s shared Muslim traditions, but also a way to give back to the Malaysian community.

“Today, we hope to spend time with you, to share meals with you, and to provide in charity for your support and well-being,” Ambassador Jose said to the children.  “Just as families and friends gather around and share meals during Eid, we wish to spend this day with you as your Filipino brothers and sisters.”

Rumah Bakti Dato’ Harun chairman Dato Mohd Fahmi Ibrahim, thanked the Ambassador, Embassy officers and staff, and the UMFM for celebrating Hari Raya at their Center with the children.

The Rumah Bakti Dato’ Harun Orphanage Education Organization is a non-government organization (NGO) registered with the Registrar of Societies and the Ministry of Social Welfare of Malaysia. The Center looks after the welfare of around 70 underprivileged children whose ages range from seven to 14 years old. END
