PH Consulate General in Chicago Holds Outreach Service in Dayton

CHICAGO 23 July 2019 — Carrying on its mission to serve Filipino communities across the Midwest, the Philippine Consulate General in Chicago held its fifth consular outreach for the year on 13 July 2019 at the Wright State University in Dayton, Ohio.
In collaboration with the National Federation of Filipino American Associations (NaFFAA) Region 3-East, under the chairmanship of Armin Sayson, a six-person team led by Deputy Consul General Romulo Victor M. Israel, Jr. processed 141 e-Passport applications and 39 dual citizenship applications aside from 25 various documents submitted for legalization.
As part of the Consulate General’s working arrangements with U.S. federal agencies, Equal Employment Opportunity Commission (EEOC) Outreach Education Coordinator Brien Shoemaker, and National Labor Relations Board (NLRB) Attorney Joseph Tansino spoke about their respective agencies’ mandates and functions for the protection of workers’ rights. They also made themselves available for consultation and dissemination of informational materials.
The event saw the special participation of 19 year old Daphne Constantinides, of Greek-American and Filipino descent, and one of the 12 pioneers of the Midwest Youth Leaders in the Diaspora (YouLeaD) Immersion Program. Ms. Constantinides shared her experience and insights on discovering her Filipino heritage, and expressed thanks for the opportunity to visit her mother Elizabeth’s homeland and connect with fellow Filipino-American millennials from the Midwest and fellow sojourners on their way to a more active involvement in their communities.
Deputy Consul General Israel piched the 2nd Midwest YouLeaD slated for 03-09 January 2020 in Manila, Bulacan and Nueva Ecija to aspiring Filipino-American youth leaders 18 to 25 years old, to join the immersion program.
He likewise also announced the upcoming Philippine Retirement Summit to be held on 10 August 2019 at Elston Place Market Mix, where the Philippine Retirement Authority (PRA), Social Security System (SSS) and the Home Development Mutual Fund (HDMF), more popularly known as Pag-IBIG will be making presentations and bringing their services for the Filipino community and the general public.
