ASEAN Committee in Rome Engages International Law Organization

ROME 30 July 2019 — Ambassador to Italy Domingo P. Nolasco hosted an ASEAN Committee in Rome (ACR) Working Luncheon with Director-General Irene Khan of International Development Law Organization (IDLO) as Guest of Honor at the Parco dei Principi Grand Hotel in Rome on 18 July.

The working luncheon, which was attended by Ambassadors from Indonesia, Malaysia, Myanmar, Thailand and Vietnam attended the working luncheon as well as IDLO Strategic Communications Director Raul Cordenillo and Government Relations Adviser Francesca Jannotti Pecci, provided an opportunity for the ASEAN Ambassadors to learn more about the IDLO and to explore possible areas of collaboration.

Ambassador Nolasco highlighted the activities being conducted by the ACR to promote ASEAN in Italy. “ACR recognizes the work of IDLO in promoting the rule of law noting that the organization has various initiatives in Indonesia, Myanmar, and Philippines, including programs on improving access to justice and enhancing capacity of prosecutors.“

For his part, Director-General Khan gave an overview of the structure and the work of IDLO and underscored that IDLO is the only intergovernmental organization dedicated to the rule of law and sustainable development.

The ACR Ambassadors Luncheon is held every month and invites officials from Italy and other international organizations to exchange insights on issues that are of mutual interest to ASEAN member countries. END
