“The Filipino American Journey” Launched in New York

NEW YORK 30 July 2019 – Author Josie Moralidad Ziman’s book “The Filipino American Journey, Stories of Survival and Success" was launched last 12 July 2019 at the Philippine Center in New York. 

The book features the narratives of Filipinos in America from various backgrounds whose difficulties, ordeals and successes inspire and give hope to readers and especially to the Filipino migrant community.

Ms. Ziman is a breast cancer survivor, correspondent for Radio Mindanao Network, writer for Manila Mail, and host of the radio show “Pilipinas sa Amerika”. She announced that the proceeds from her bookwill be donated to Friends of Cancer Kids Foundation and Iloilo Inc. which provide financial assistance to children with cancer.

In his welcome remarks, Philippine Consulate General in New York Consul Arman R. Talbo applauded Ms. Ziman’s effort to recount the stories of survival and success of the Filipino migrants in the book.  He also congratulated the Filipino migrants whose experiences are testament to Filipino resilience, tenacity and commitment.

One family and eight individual Filipino migrants in the United States Northeast are featured in the book including the Trinidad family from Teaneck, New Jersey; Kaitlyn Trinidad, a student at the College of Mount Saint Vincent; Ronnie Lumauag Mataquel, a math teacher at John Bowne High School in Flushing, Queens; Ruby Abangan Sibal, a newborn care specialist and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of Beyond Baby Care LLC; Ernesto Pamolarco Jr., a special education teacher; Richard Holsman, CEO and President of Holsman Physical Therapy and Rehabilitation Centers in NJ and NY; Ramil Buenaventura, a math teacher at Renaissance Charter School in Jackson Heights, NY; Atty. Nicholas Caraquel, an immigration lawyer; and Jhett Tolentino, a three-time Tony award-winning Broadway producer.

Los Angeles-based Josie Harrison, mother of Filipino-American comedian Jokoy, and San Franciso-based  Cristina Osmena, great grand daughter of former Philippine President Sergio Osmeña,  also attended the event. END
