DND Officials Attend Int’l Military-Technical Forum, Reaffirm Commitment on Defense Cooperation with Russia

MOSCOW 31 July 2019 — Senior officials from the Department of National Defense (DND), Defense Undersecretary for Defense Operations Cesar Yano and Defense Undersecretary for Finance and Materiel Raymundo Elefante, attended the “Army 2019”, an International Military and Technical Forum, on 25 June 2019 in Patriot Park, Moscow.

The senior officials were accompanied by officers from the Philippine Embassy in Moscow Third Secretary and Vice Consul and Head of Political Section Anna Guerra, Embassy Defense and Armed Forces Attaché Colonel Dennis Francis Pastor, and DND Procurement Officer Angelito Estrada.

The annual event gathered 65 military delegations, 20 of which were headed by defense ministers.  Over 1,200 companies from 14 countries, including major players in Russia’s military-industrial complex, presented – through an exhibit, live outdoor demonstration, and discussion sessions – the latest innovations in the field of armament and military equipment. 

On the sidelines, the DND officials met with their counterparts and took the opportunity to reaffirm Philippines commitment on Defense Cooperation with Russia, noting the increase in bilateral activities in this area of engagement since the signing of the Philippines-Russia Defense Cooperation Agreement two years ago.

The Philippines-Russia Defense Cooperation Agreement serves as framework for military-to-military engagement between the two sides.

The DND delegation also met with Ambassador to Russia Carlos D. Sorreta and Embassy officials to discuss the status of procurement of military equipment from Russia. END
