Filipino Community Organization Donates Goods for Distressed Overseas Filipinos

DAMASCUS 01 August 2019 – A total of 26 female wards currently sheltered at the Philippine Embassy in Damascus’ Filipino Workers Resource Center (FWRC) benefited from the outreach program brought in by the Samahan ng mga Filipino sa Syria (SAMAFIL) last 14 July 2019.
Embassy Chargé d’Affaires (CDA), e.p. and Consul General Alex V. Lamadrid welcomed the SAMAFIL officers and members who donated brand new shoes to the 26 female wards, in addition to the sack of rice, canned goods, clothes, toiletries, and biscuits.
Receiving also the donations in behalf of the wards, CDA Lamadrid expressed gratitude to the SAMAFIL for their hard work and kind gesture of helping kababayans in need.
“You are an important partner of the Embassy in upholding the interests of the country and the Filipino people in Syria, through joint cultural promotion activities, crisis contingency planning and assistance to distressed nationals.”
CDA Lamadrid also took the opportunity to brief SAMAFIL of the upcoming events and programs of the Embassy, encouraging them to participate, particularly in the literary contest in August in celebration of the “Buwan ng Wika”.
SAMAFIL pledged to earmark part of the proceeds of their future projects to help wards at the Filipino Workers Resource Center further.
The outreach program ended with a luncheon prepared by the officers and members of SAMAFIL, and shared with the FWRC wards.END
