NEW YORK 30 June 2019 – The Philippines Consulate General in New York brought into spotlight Filipino traditional culinary delights and drinks in this year’s Society of Foreign Consuls’ (SOFC) International Food Festival held last 26 June 2019.

Hosted by the Consulate General of Poland, the Philippines, Singapore and Thailand represented the ASEAN region in the said event. Twenty-four other Consulates in New York joined the Festival.

The Consulate General delegation, headed by Deputy Consul General Kerwin Orville Tate, offered “bistek” and cassava cake prepared by Chef Rose Teves, owner of Grill 21—one of the participating restaurants in the Filipino Restaurant Week in May.

Bistek is one of the favorite Filipino ways to cook beef combining two flavors that Filipino love – salty and sour, while cassava, a Filipino moist cake made from grated cassava, coconut milk, and condensed milk with a custard layer on top commonly eaten during  merienda and  is served during gatherings and special occasion, according to Chef Teves.

SOFC in New York president and Georgian Consul General to New York Diana Zhgenti acknowledged the participation of the chefs as well as the Consulates, which primarily gave the opportunity for the Consulates to reconnect and mingle with each other while promoting and enjoying  diverse cuisines from different regions.

The Festival concluded with a night of celebration of diverse culture through dance and songs of the participating countries. END
