Forum on Estate Tax Amnesty in the Philippines Held in New York

NEW YORK 08 August 2019 – The Philippine Consulate General in New York and the Philippine American Chamber of Commerce, Inc. (PACC) hosted a forum on estate tax amnesty in the Philippines on 23 July 2019 at the Philippine Center Kalayaan Hall.
Highlighted in the forum Republic Act 11213 or the Tax Amnesty Act, which was signed by President Rodrigo Duterte on 14 February 2019 and took effect on 15 June 2019. It aims to provide the taxpayers a one-time opportunity to settle estate tax obligations through an estate tax amnesty program that will give reasonable tax relief to estates with outstanding estate tax liabilities.
SGV & Co Senior Director and Ernst & Young in New York- Philippine Desk head Atty. Betheena C. Dizon of gave an overview of this new law and cited examples/illustrations of how it applies. More than 50 members of the Filipino-American community in the U.S. northeast, many of whom are lawyers and landowners in the Philippines, participated in the event.
PACC President Aureo Sales said that this topic is of interest to many Filipino-Americans who are entitled to benefit from lower estate taxes as a result of the amnesty.
