PH Ambassador Presents Credentials to Seychellois President

VICTORIA 15 August 2019 — Ambassador to Kenya Alex G. Chua presented his credentials as the country's non-resident envoy to Seychelles to Seychellois President Danny Faure at the State House on 06 August 2019.

Ambassador Chua conveyed the warm felicitations of President Rodrigo Duterte and the people of the Philippines to President Faure and the people of Seychelles. He expressed the appreciation for the warm hospitality and kind assistance extended to Filipino nationals working and residing in Seychelles.

President Faure welcomed Ambassador Chua and his delegation to Seychelles, and stated that the Filipinos in Seychelles have contributed greatly to the economy, culture and social life of the people in the country. 

He likewise, congratulated Ambassador Chua on his accreditation, saying that “Our countries share the same ideals of democracy, social justice and people-centered development. It is a pleasure to meet with you and renew Seychelles’ commitment to consolidating collaboration between our two countries.”

Ambassador Chua and President Faure discussed several areas of cooperation, with particular emphasis on formalizing a labor agreement which would ensure the protection of Filipino professionals who will work in Seychelles in the fields of tourism, education, and especially healthcare. 

The Ambassador was accompanied by his spouse, Madame Marie Marla Chua, and Cultural Officer Hossana P. Dela Cruz, while President Faure was attended by Secretary of State, Ambassador Barry Faure and the other relevant officials of the Ministry of Foreign Affairs.

The archipelagic nation of Seychelles, composed of 115 islands and has a population of 90,000, is home to almost 1,000 Filipinos or former Filipinos.

Filipinos first arrived in Seychelles in the early 90s and are now entrenched in Seychellois society. They hold mainly supervisory positions in the telecommunications, hospitality and manufacturing industries. END
