BANGKOK 20 August 2019 – The Philippine Embassy in Bangkok joined other Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) Member States in celebrating ASEAN Day 2019 at the Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs (MFA) on 08 August 2019.
The commemoration began early with the ASEAN Flag Hoisting Ceremony in front of the Vithes Samosorn Hall, where Thai MFA officials, ASEAN Ambassadors, as well as Embassy representatives were present.
Three children of Embassy personnel joined in the singing of the ASEAN Anthem during the Opening Ceremony of the ASEAN Day 2019 commemoration.
This year’s event focused on raising awareness of ASEAN among the youth. Hundreds of Thai students, as well as children from the ASEAN Embassies in Bangkok, participated in games and went around the country booths of ASEAN Embassies.
The Embassy booth showcased various Philippine cultural memorabilia, including the commemorative stamps for the 70th Anniversary of Philippines-Thailand Diplomatic Relations. Several ASEAN souvenirs were also distributed to the visitors.
Thailand is Chair of ASEAN for 2019. This year, the theme of ASEAN is “Advancing Partnership for Sustainability”. END
