PH Embassy in Budapest Celebrates 52nd ASEAN Anniversary

BUDAPEST 28 August 2019 – The Philippine Embassy in Budapest celebrated with the Embassies of Indonesia, Malaysia, Thailand, and Vietnam the 52nd founding anniversary of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) with a joint diplomatic reception on 08 August 2019.
The five Embassies hosted the event at Indonesian Ambassador Abdurrachman Hudiono Dimas Wahab’s residence, and invited the members of diplomatic corps, Hungarian government officials, academics, businessmen, and other distinguished guests from the private sectors to celebrate 52 years of ASEAN, which has become an exemplary model for regional organizations.
With Indonesian Ambassador Wahab leading, the Ambassador to Hungary Maria Fe T. Pangilinan, Thai Ambassador Jakkrit Srivali, Vietnamese Ambassador Tien Thuc Nguyen, and Malaysian Charge d’Affaires, a.i. Ahmad Irshad Bin MD Razib welcomed the guests, which included Hungarian Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Trade Deputy State Secretary Andras Baranyi.
Dr. Baranyi, who served as guest speaker, noted the developments in Hungary relations with ASEAN countries. He spoke in particular about how the coming 2019-2020 academic year will see hundreds of scholars from Southeast Asia arriving in Budapest, courtesy of the Stipendium Hungaricum program.
The guests were treated to a lunch that featured the rich and diverse cuisines of Southeast Asia, with the Philippines serving local favorites such as caldereta, chopsuey, turon, and cassava cake. END
