SEOUL 28 August 2019 — The Philippines and South Korea celebrated 70 years of bilateral relations with a Friendship Concert by the Manila Symphony Junior Orchestra (MSJO) and the Korea Suzuki Association Orchestra (KSAO) at the Youngsan Art Hall on 27 July 2019.
“The Friendship Concert and collaboration between the MSJO and the KSAO will undoubtedly capture the hearts of the audience and form part of the beautiful memories of Philippines-Korea people-to-people relations,” Philippine Ambassador to South Korea Noe A. Wong stated in his congratulatory message.
MSJO Conductor Jeffrey Solares said that it is fitting that the diplomatic milestone is celebrated through music performed both by Filipinos and Koreans.
Meanwhile, Korea Suzuki Association President Professor Kyungik Hwang expressed the hope that the concert will be an opportunity for Filipino and Korean students to work together for a more active exchange.
The Friendship Concert featured classical, Filipino and Korean compositions. Young Korean music students performed with the MSJO and with soloist Moon Si-eun during the first part of the concert. The second part of the concert featured Filipino songs such as Handog, Anak, Leron Leron Sinta and Kruhay. A new musical arrangement of Leron, Leron Sinta was also premiered at the concert.
The finale was an inspiring joint performance by the MSJO and the KSAO music teachers of the most famous Korean folk song, Arirang.
The MSJO recently won the First Prize in the 12th Summa Cum Laude International Music Festival in Vienna, Austria in 2018. END
