SSS Opens Southern California Representative Office in Los Angeles

LOS ANGELES 15 August 2019 — Committed to make more government services accessible to its publics, the Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles is now hosting the Southern California Representative Office of the Social Security System (SSS) in its consular section.
The Office was formally inaugurated on 12 August 2019 at the Consulate General’s Community Hall.
In his welcome remarks during the ribbon-cutting ceremony, Consul General to Los Angeles Adelio Angelito Cruz encouraged Filipino-Americans to take advantage of the SSS services and benefits by continuing or resuming their monthly contribution. He also mentioned that SSS facilities are open to former Filipinos who were members or wish to become members. SSS officials present emphasized the importance of a Philippine birth certificate for former Filipinos to facilitate their membership application.
SSS President and Chief Executive Officer Aurora C. Ignacio, announced that a permanent representative from SSS will soon arrive in Los Angeles to ensure the office’s uninterrupted operations. In the meantime, the SSS representative from San Francisco is present in the L.A. office to render services.
As a run-up to its official launch, SSS officials conducted onsite services and a briefing on the 2018 Social Security Act for about a hundred Filipino-Americans at the Pilipino Workers Center (PWC) on 11 August 2019.
Established by virtue of Republic Act No. 1161, otherwise known as Social Security Act of 1954, SSS is a government-owned and controlled corporation (GOCC) managing the social insurance program in the Philippines to workers in the private, professionals and informal sectors. END
