VICTORIA, SEYCHELLES 10 August 2019 – At the sidelines of his presentation of credentials in Seychelles, Ambassador to Kenya Alex G. Chua held separate meetings on 07 August 2019 with Seychellois officials, particularly Minister for Employment Immigration and Civil Status Myriam Telemaque and Civil Status and Police Commissioner Krishnan Labonte, to discuss the safety, welfare and well-being of Filipinos residing in Seychelles.
There are roughly 650 Filipinos in Seychelles, according to Minister Telemaque. She expressed her appreciation for the contribution of the Filipinos to the Seychelles economy, and added that the country will benefit greatly if more Filipinos could work in Seychelles.
Ambassador Chua stressed to Minister Telemaque the need for a comprehensive labor agreement which would ensure the protection of migrant workers, before the Philippines could deploy more workers.
Commissioner Labonte, on the other hand, lauded the good behavior of the Filipino community in Seychelles. He further stated that among the migrant communities in Seychelles, the Filipinos are the best and has enhanced the Seychelles society.
In both meetings, Ambassador Chua underscored the importance the Philippine government puts on the care and safety of Filipino migrant workers, who are deemed the “bagong bayani,” (new heroes) of the Philippines. “We entrust our Filipino nationals in your care, because we know that you will value them as though they are your own nationals.”
Ambassador Chua travelled to Seychelles for his accreditation visit on 04 to 07 August 2019, where he met with Seychellois President Danny Faure, other Seychelles government officials and the Filipino community.
