VICTORIA, SEYCHELLES 09 August 2019 – At the sidelines of his presentation of credentials, Ambassador Alex G. Chua visited the various business establishments owned by Filipina-Seychellois around the capital city of Victoria on  05 August 2019.

Acting as the unofficial tour guide and herself the owner of Avis Car Rental in Seychelles, Rosita Parcou accompanied Ambassador Chua on a walk tour of the various establishments, which include Avis Car Rental, Glamour Fast Food, Guiney’s Botique, City Bakeshop, Big C Fashion, Body and Sole Massage and Spa, and Stylista Fashion.

Ambassador Chua met Glamour Fast Food owner Cherry Guiney, whose shop serves authentic Filipino food—including lechon, siopao and halo-halo, and Big C owner Charity Uledi, whose shop sells fashion for ladies, gents and kids.

“We are in awe of what you have achieved in Seychelles,” Ambassador Chua said. “Your story must be told in order to inspire other Filipinos in Seychelles and all over the world. You have proven that with determination, perseverance and hard work success is possible against all odds.”

The three Filipina entrepreneurs were among the first 1,200 wave of Filipinos recruited by the Indian Ocean Tuna Factory to work in Seychelles.

The Filipinos first arrived in Seychelles in the early 90s and are now entrenched in Seychellois society. There are now about 1,000 Filipinos and former Filipinos in Seychelles, mostly holding supervisory positions in the telecommunications, hospitality and manufacturing industries. END
