PH Ambassador Meets Filipinos in Seychelles, Graces Opening Ceremony of Basketball League

VICTORIA, SEYCHELLES 09 August 2019 – Ambassador to Kenya Alex G. Chua met the proud Pinoys in Seychelles during the get together lunch and town-hall open forum at the District Hall of Mt. Fleuri in Victoria and graced the Opening Ceremony of the Pinoy Expats Basketball League in Seychelles on 05 August 2019.
Ambassador Chua thanking the Filipino community in Seychelles for the warm welcome said “this open forum is our priority, because we need to know your situation in Seychelles, your hopes and aspirations and how we, the Philippine Embassy, can better serve you.”
The Ambassador also explained that the Philippine Government is working on a comprehensive labor agreement which would protect the rights and welfare of Filipinos in Seychelles, including easing deployment.
A Bilateral Air Services Agreement, which would ease the people to people exchanges between the Philippines and Seychelles is on the work. This is expected to redound greatly to the benefit of Pinoys in Seychelles.
The almost 1, 000 Filipinos and former Filipinos in Seychelles stay in contact through their Facebook page Proud Pinoys in Seychelles, administered by Wireless Seychelles Chief Financial Officer Teng Alvarez, who is the unofficial Filipino community leader in Seychelles.

On the same day, Ambassador to Kenya Alex G. Chua graced the Opening Ceremony of the Pinoy Expats Basketball League in Seychelles at the NSC Hall, Roche Caiman, Rue Espoir.
“There is nothing more satisfying than seeing Filipinos abroad bond in brotherhood because of basketball,” Ambassador Chua said. “The friendship and camaraderie formed in sports competition is more important than winning.”
Organized by Nelson Nosil with the assistance of the Filipino Community in Seychelles, four teams namely: Team Outlaws; Team Pinoy Expats; Team Boleros and Team Glamour battled one game per Sunday.
