The ASEAN Committee in Canberra is comprised of all the ten missions of ASEAN Member States in Canberra.
Ambassador to Australia Ma. Hellen B. De La Vega (second from right) led the Philippine participation in the event.
Governor General Hurley said in his speech, “The economic growth and regional stability the region has seen in the past 50+ years, is a credit to ASEAN and its member states’ commitment to multilateral diplomacy. We are conscious that this peace and stability owes much to the efforts of its leaders and the principles of ASEAN.”
In his capacity as Chair of the ASEAN Committee in Canberra, Myanmar Ambassador to Australia Tha Aung Nyun said, “The good progress achieved in dialogue relations between ASEAN and Australia over the past 44 years leads to the successful convening of the ASEAN-Australia Special Summit in Sydney in March 2018, and the adoption of Sydney Declaration. ASEAN welcomes Australia’s enduring support for ASEAN centrality and its commitment to cooperation through ASEAN-led mechanisms.”
More than 300 guests from government, private sector, academe as well as the leaders of communities attended the event.
