MANILA 04 September 2019 — A Filipino national who suffered a stroke in Yerevan, Armenia arrived in Manila on 25 August 2019.

Repatriated by the Philippine Embassy in Moscow, the stroke victim was accompanied by his wife on the flight.

The Filipino suffered a serious stroke last May and was in a coma until June. “We closely monitored his situation and provided funds for his hospitalization. Once he came out of his coma, he expressed his desire to return home.  But to prepare him for the trip home, he had to stay in the hospital for treatment and therapy,” according to Philippine Ambassador to Russia Carlos D. Sorreta.

The stroke victim was confined at the Yerevan Medical State University and given due care and attention by a host of Armenian doctors, who praised the swift recovery of the stroke victim after undergoing a serious medical crisis.

The Embassy, with jurisdiction over Armenia, worked very closely with the Philippine Honorary Consul General to Armenia Albert Taroyan and his staff Sona Hovhannisyan to care for the Filipino stroke victim and his wife.  Honorary Consul Taroyan was also instrumental in ensuring that the Filipino couple could exit Armenia, and facilitated the extension of their visas for emergency humanitarian reasons.

“We are very grateful to our Honorary Consul General in Armenia and his staff for all the help and assistance they provided in this case.  This is not the first time they have helped Filipinos requiring assistance and we are fortunate to have them protecting our interests and that of our nationals in Armenia,” Ambassador Sorreta said.

The repatriation efforts were also conducted in close cooperation with the Department of Foreign Affairs–Office of Migrant Workers’ Affairs and the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration, which provided on-the-ground medical assistance upon the Filipino’s arrival in Manila. Upon their successful repatriation, the Filipino’s wife also conveyed her heartfelt thanks to the Embassy and the Honorary Consulate their constant and dedicated attention to their needs. END
