SAN FRANCISCO 01 August 2019 — The Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco, through its Sentro Rizal, hosted two Sentro Rizal activities at the Consulate General:  the “Remembering Rizal: Celebrating his 158th” on 27 June 2019 and the University of the Philippines Alumni Association in San Francisco (UPAASF)’s summer camp on 8 July 2019.

The UPAASF summer camp is an annual cultural immersion field trip of Filipino-American school children. The program provides free lessons in Filipino language, history, arts, and culture.

During the visit, the Consulate General welcomed the campers, aged seven to 14 years old, to the Philippine Center. It was an opportunity for the 36 students of Filipino descent to tour the center, the Philippine Folklife Museum, now renamed the Museo ng Lahing Pilipino, and the Consulate General premises. The Consulate General officials gave a brief introduction and presentations on the functions and activities of the Consulate General.

Philipine national hero Jose Rizal’s 158th birthday celebration organized by Philippine-American Writers and Artists, led by its president Edwin Lozada, and Ms. Lydia Dela Cruz, in cooperation with the Consulate General, the Sentro Rizal San Francisco, and the Philippine Center Management Board, highlights the life and travels of Dr. Rizal in Europe, specifically his travels with Maximo Viola as presented by Mr. Viola’s relative Penelope V. Flores, and the Philippine national hero’s friendship with Mariano Katigbak as presented by Mr. Katigbak’s descendant Renz Katigbak. END
