CHICAGO 15 August 2019 –  A sister-city partnership with Overland Park was high in the agenda of the luncheon meeting of Philippine Consul General  to Chicago Gina A. Jamoralin with Overland Park Council Member Dr. Faris Farassati on 12 August 2019.

Consul General Jamoralin’s discussion on the ways to promote the Philippine’s relation with Overland Park was premised on the United States Census Bureau’s 2011-2015 American Community Survey report which provides that there are over 1,063 Filipinos and Filipino-Americans residing at Overland park.

Dr. Farassati, who has been introduced to leaders of the Filipino American Association of Greater Wichita, offered his insights on how the association can establish their very own community center.

With their recently acquired 501(c)(3) status under the Internal Revenue Code, community members can commit and sustain their support toward having sufficient building fund. “Nothing good ever comes easy, but achieving such a lofty goal is not impossible either,” Council Member Dr. Farassati, who is also a prominent cancer scientist of Iran, said.

Minority of the communities in Overland Park from Asia and the Pacific, including the Philippines, can also work together to attain common goals and interests. END
