PH Ambassador to South Africa Assumes Leadership as Asia Group of the Diplomatic Corps Dean

PHOTO: Ambassador to South Africa Joseph Gerard B. Angeles (first photo, standing) accepted the mantle of leadership as Dean of the Asia Group of the Diplomatic Corps in South Africa. He assumed leadership of the distinguished group from Kazakhstan Ambassador Talgat Kaliyev on 29 July 2019.

The Asia Group consists of Ambassadors and High Commissioners of ASEAN countries Philippines, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore, Thailand, Myanmar and Vietnam, as well as China, Japan, Australia, New Zealand, India, Korea and many others. Due to its number as well as the importance of the region, the Asia Group occupies an important and eminent place within the Diplomatic Corps in South Africa.

Ambassador Angeles leads the discussion to draw up a Plan of Action. The Group aims to foster closer ties with the Department of International Relations and Cooperation (DIRCO), enhance the security of diplomats in South Africa, and promote greater interaction with South Africa’s stakeholders, including government, businesses, and the man-on-the-street.
