DND, PAF Officials Take Closer Look at Russian Equipment at Moscow Aviation, Space Show

MOSCOW 12 September 2019 — Philippine Defense and Air Force officials were able to take a good look at Russian aviation and space equipment and witness Russian aircraft in action at the 14th International Aviation and Space Salon (MAKS-2019) on 27-28 August 2019.
Leading the Philippine delegation were Defense Undersecretary Raymundo Elefante and Air Force Chief of Air Staff Major General Pelagio Valenzuela. With them were Air Force officials Colonel Gerold Gagan, Colonel Genaro Menor and Major Sonny Boy Cabalquinto.
The Embassy’s Deputy Chief of Mission Consul General Robert Ferrer Jr., Third Secretary and Vice-Consul and Political Section head Anna Guerra, and Defense and Armed Forces Attaché Colonel Dennis Pastor also formed part of the delegation.
President Vladimir Putin and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan opened MAKS 2019.
At the sidelines of MAKS 2019, the Philippine Delegation met with various Russian government officials, and held a working dinner with Ambassador to Russia Carlos D. Sorreta.
“This is a good opportunity for our defense and air force officials to examine the latest Russia and other countries have to offer in terms of aircraft and related equipment,” Ambassador Sorreta said.
MAKS 2019 was organized by Russia’s Ministry of Industry and Trade and by the State Corporation for Assistance to Development, Production and Export of Advanced Technology Industrial Product or Rostec.
A total of 827 companies from 33 countries, including 184 foreign companies participated in this year’s MAKS. Russia featured 40 new models, including the latest aircraft and helicopters, communications and electronic warfare systems, engines and airport equipment. END
Major General Valenzuela inspects a military aircraft for possible acquisition by the Philippine Air Force.
Undersecretary Elefante and Major General Valenzuela meet with officials from Russia’s Federal Service for Military-Technical Cooperation (FSMTC) and Rosoboronexport to discuss issues of bilateral military cooperation, specifically the possible acquisition of defense aircrafts and related equipment.
The members of the delegation called on Ambassador to Russia Carlos Sorret (fifth from right, in barong), and met with Embassy officials for a working dinner to discuss steps in further enhancing Philippines-Russia defense relations.
