PH Embassy in Pretoria Promotes PH Indigenous Culture in South Africa

PRETORIA 12 August 2019 — In celebration of the Philippine Language and History Month, the Philippine Embassy in Pretoria organized a seminar-workshop on Philippine indigenous culture and languages entitled “Wika at Kultura” at the Embassy’s multipurpose room on 24 August 2019.

Katutubo Exchange Philippines founder and executive director Dr. Edwin V. Antonio conducted the seminar.  Katutubo Exchange Philippines is  an organization of volunteer youths and cultural workers who advocate for the promotion of Philippine indigenous culture, traditional arts, and cross-cultural understanding.

Dr. Antonio shared interesting and insightful information about the various indigenous peoples in the Philippines. His presentation included demonstrations on the proper writing of baybayin and the wearing of indigenous attires.

The seminar-workshop was able to draw an enthusiastic crowd comprising of Filipinos in South Africa, as well as South African friends of the Embassy.

The event was capped with a sumptuous Filipino salo-salo.

The seminar-workshop is in line with the vigorous efforts of the Embassy to foster among the Filipinos in South Africa a greater sense of appreciation for their Filipino heritage and identity. END
