Filipino Stroke Survivor in Bahrain Reunited with Family after 8 Years

MANAMA 17 September 2019 — Overseas Filipino worker Daisy Fernandez De Jesus, who suffered a stroke in June 2019, has returned home to the Philippines on 14 September 2019 after working for eight years in Bahrain as a domestic household worker since 2011.

Ms. De Jesus, who hails from Mexico, Pampanga, undergone a delicate craniotomy procedure in Manama to remove the blood clot and relieve the swelling of her brain.

The Filipina, who is partially paralyzed due to stroke, has been confined at the Salmaniya Hospital in Manama for four months. Inspired by her desire to reunite with her family, she has made an excellent recovery, allowing her to travel to the Philippines.

“I am happy to be given the chance to be with my family again in the Philippines. This would not have been possible without the efforts of the Philippine Embassy in Manama and the assistance Bahraini authorities,” Ms. De Jesus said as she was preparing to leave the hospital for the airport.

Due to her condition, the Embassy facilitated the repatriation of Ms. De Jesus by arranging her travel to the Philippines with a medical escort. The Embassy also made representations with relevant government agencies in Bahrain for the efficient repatriation of Ms. De Jesus.

The Department of Foreign Affairs shouldered all related expenses for the medical repatriation of Ms. De Jesus through the utilization of the Assistance-to-Nationals Fund. END
