First PH Outbound Business Matching Mission in Bangladesh

DHAKA 19 September 2019 — With the aim to expand Philippine products’ presence in new markets like Bangladesh, the first Philippine Outbound Business Matching Mission (OBMM) was held in Dhaka on 01-04 September 2019.

The Philippine delegation was headed by Department of Trade and Industry-Export Marketing Bureau (DTI-EMB) Assistant Director Agnes Perpetua R. Legaspi. She was welcomed by Ambassador to Bangladesh Vicente Vivencio T. Bandillo on 01 September in Dhaka at the Philippine Embassy in Dhaka.

The delegation also called on Bangladesh Commerce Secretary Md. Mofizul Islam to discuss ways to increase business activities between the Philippines and Bangladesh. A seminar on Promoting Bilateral Trade and Investment between Bangladesh and the Philippines at the Dhaka Chamber of Commerce and Industry (DCCI) Building was also held on the same day.

Assistant Director Legaspi highlighted the Philippines as an emerging market with consistent growth in recent years bolstered by numerous free trade agreements with other countries. Philippine Trade and Investment Center in Jakarta’s Commercial Attaché Jeremiah C. Reyes emphasized the need to establish frameworks of cooperation between the Philippines and Bangladesh.

The seminar was followed by a business-to-business (B2B) matching session where the business delegation was given an opportunity to present their products to the members of DCCI and the Bangladesh-Philippines Chamber of Commerce and Industry.

The delegation also paid a courtesy call on Bangladesh Information and Communication Technology State Minister Zunaid Ahmed Palak on 03 September 2019.

Both the Bangladesh Information and Communications Technology (ICT) Division and the OBMM delegation agreed to work together in sharing best practices, strategies and approaches on nurturing and developing Startups and in encouraging technological innovations. The DTI delegation viewed startup Bangladesh and their accelerator, where aspiring tech companies can collaborate with established entrepreneurs, academies, financial institutions and the government to grow.

The delegation also met on 03 September 2019 the executives of three major retailers in Bangladesh, namely, Agora, Shwapno and Chaldal.com. They were also briefed on the process and means for their products to be hosted on the retailers’ shelves and were able to visit the stores of Agora and Shwapno for market research. END
