COMELEC Officials Attends Int’l Conference on Digitalization of Electoral Processes

MOSCOW 25 September 2019 — Philippine election officials attended the International Conference on the Digitalization of Electoral Processes on 06-08 September 2019 in Moscow. 

Commission on Elections (COMELEC) Commissioner Marlon Casquejo and Director Esmeralda Ladra Country representatives, attended the event where Commissioner Casquejo gave a presentation on the prospects and challenges in the use technology during the country's elections during the conference's country presentations.

“The conference will be a good venue for COMELEC officials to discuss with their counterparts the recent technological developments that may be applied to ensure swift yet reliable election results,” Ambassador to Russia Carlos Sorreta said.

“The observations noted by the officials during their participation in the conference will prove valuable as the Philippines begins its studies on the conduct of Overseas Internet Voting in the upcoming elections,” Ambassador Sorreta added.

The “scientific and practical” conference, which was organized by the Central Election Commission of the Russian Federation together with the Government of Moscow, showcased the innovations in the elections to the participants on 08 September 2019.

The conference was attended by heads of national election management bodies, representatives from international specialized organizations, and electoral experts from 32 countries of Asia, Europe, Africa, and Latin America.

Russian Federation Central Election Commission Chairperson Ella Pamfilova delivered her remarks at the opening ceremony.  Familiarization tours to observe the technological innovations employed during the elections, specifically the electronic polling stations, were organized.  END
