First Western Visayas Mission to Guam Highlights Food Products, Fashion, Tourism

AGANA 30 September 2019 — A delegation from Western Visayas composed of government and tourism officials, businessmen and travel agents visited Guam to undertake their first Agricultural, Trade, Investment, Tourism, Cultural Mission to Guam on 10-16 September 2019. 

The mission highlighted tourist destinations, food products, and fashion using indigenous fabrics from the major regions of Western Visayas.

The delegation had a courtesy call on Guam Governor Lou Leon Guerrero, followed by a networking event called “Western Visayas VIP Meet-and-Greet” at the Pacific Star Resort & Spa; “Western Visayas Expo and Fashion Show” at the Micronesia Mall; and appearances on radio programs including “Kumusta Kabayan”, the Sunday radio program on KTKB Megamixx 101.9 FM co-hosted by Philippine Consulate General in Agana Consul Mark Francis C. Hamoy.  The group is hopeful that a direct flight between Iloilo and Guam and vice versa would be established in the near future.

Western Visayas, numerically designated as Region VI, consists of six provinces (Aklan, Antique, Capiz, Guimaras, Iloilo and Negros Occidental) and two highly urbanized cities (Bacolod City and Iloilo City).  With 7.5 million inhabitants and spanning an area of 20,794.18 square kilometers (8,028.68 square miles), Western Visayas is the most populous region in the Visayas.
