Labor Trafficking Victim Receives Financial Assistance from PH Gov’t

NEW YORK 02 October 2019 — An overseas Filipino worker (OFW) in New York received financial assistance from the Philippine Government through the Philippine Consulate General in New York on 29 August 2019.
OFW Lea Fe Abarcar Obillo, who was a victim of labor trafficking, was given the amount of US$1,000 as financial assistance from the Philippine Government. The check was handed to her by Deputy Consul General Kerwin Orville C. Tate.
Ms. Obillo’s case is currently being handled by a Boston-based non-government organization. Aside from extending the financial assistance from the government, the Consulate General is also closely coordinating with Ms. Obillo and the organization to resolve her case.
“The amount would be of big help to me and my family in Iloilo,” Ms. Obillo said as she expressed her gratitude to the Philippine Government. Aside from Ms. Obillo, other victims of labor trafficking were also granted financial assistance. END
