NEW YORK 02 October 2019 – The annual Sinehan sa Summer in New York completed another successful run this year with the showing of the award-winning indie film, "Kung Paano Siya Nawala" at its final night before a full house at the Kalayaan Hall of the Philippine Center on 29 August 2019.
The blockbuster movie directed by Joel Ruiz is a hilarious but poignant story of love and forgetting featuring actors JM de Guzman, Rhian Ramos, and Agot Isidro.
The Sinehan sa Summer is a flagship project of the Philippine Consulate General in New York featuring award-winning classic and indie Filipino films, as well as short films submitted by upcoming Filipino and Filipino-Americans filmmakers and actors, all in English or with English subtitles.
The screenings ran every Thursday evening of August and each show was either full or standing room only (SRO). Talkback sessions were also held to provide opportunity for the audience to interact with some of the directors and producers.
This year's Sinehan was a tribute to the celebration of 100 years of Philippine Cinema. It was held with the support of the Film Development Council of the Philippines, Cultural Center of the Philippines, Cinemalaya, TBA Studios, Arkeo Films, and Victory Liner which helped bring the different films for free viewing in New York.
Filipino-American organizations and groups co-sponsored the different showing nights wherein they also provided Filipino merienda before each show, much to the delight of the audience, who not only enjoyed the movies but also had a taste of delectable Filipino cuisine.
At the closing event, Consul General to New York Claro S. Cristobal thanked and presented Certificates of Appreciation to production designer and art director Fiel Zabat as well as to writer and actor Gil Quito who were part of this year's screening committee. END
