Brunei intl womens month

28 March 2014 - In observance of Women’s Month in March, the Philippine Embassy in Brunei Darussalam held a film showing and a forum on health consciousness on March 21.

A film showing sponsored by the Overseas Worker’s Welfare Administration (OWWA), entitled “English Vinglist,” was held from 12 p.m. to 2:00pm.

The film is about an Indian woman who learns to overcome her insecurities by enrolling in an English language program where she gains a measure of self-respect and confidence.

All Embassy officers, staff and the wards of the OWWA Center watched the film.

In the evening, a forum on health consciousness was held at the Chancery. Invited speakers included Dr. Anthony Joseph Castro, an internist employed by Ministry of Health in Brunei Darussalam, who spoke on ways to maintain good health.  He was joined by his spouse, Dra. Ma. Theresa Castro, a non-practicing pathologist who spoke on the symptoms and early detection of breast cancer.

Ms. Pearlie Jay Joson, a registered nutritionist/dietitian from Fitness Zone, a popular health club in Brunei Darussalam, spoke on the importance of maintaining a proper diet.

The forum on health consciousness was incorporated into the graduation ceremony of Embassy’s Filipino Language and Cultural Enrichment Program, which is offered free of charge to Filipino children ages 5-17 years old and held twice a year during school breaks in Brunei Darussalam. END
