BANDAR SERI BEGAWAN 04 October 2019 — Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam Christopher B. Montero presented his credentials to His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, at the Istana Nurul Iman on 18 September 2019.

His Majesty the Sultan congratulated Ambassador Montero on his appointment as the country’s envoy to Brunei Darussalam, and cited the existing close and strong relations between the Philippines and Brunei Darussalam. 

Ambassador Montero underlined his commitment to work towards elevating bilateral relations to a higher plane, and took the opportunity to convey the Philippine Government’s deep appreciation for the vital role Brunei Darussalam has played, and continues to play, in moving forward the Mindanao Peace Process, particularly its active participation in the International Monitoring Team (IMT) and the Independent Decommissioning Body (IDB).

He expressed the hope that Brunei Darussalam stays closely engaged in its successful implementation in order to fulfill the attainment of just and lasting peace in Mindanao.

His Majesty the Sultan cited the growing number of Filipino communities in the country and conveyed his appreciation for their valuable contributions in all sectors of Bruneian society.

There are more than 21,000 Filipinos who consider Brunei as their second home. Ambassador Montero noted the important role that Filipinos play in the country’s economic progress, while at the same time serving as bridges of friendship and understanding between our two peoples.

Ambassador Montero likewise was granted an audience with His Royal Highness Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister’s Office, His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah ibni His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam, where they both affirmed the mutual desire of both countries to strengthen goodwill and cooperation.   

Ambassador Montero is the 10th Philippine Ambassador to serve in Brunei Darussalam since the establishment of diplomatic relations on 01 January 1984.  Prior to his foreign assignment in Brunei, he was Ambassador to Cambodia. END
