CHONGQING 05 October 2019 — To promote the Philippines as a travel destination, the Department of Tourism (DOT)-Shanghai, led by Tourism Attaché Ireneo Reyes, conducted a Philippine Tourism Business Mission on 16 September 2019 at the Crowne Plaza Hotel-Jiefangbei.

The mission consisted of tabletop business-to-business (B2B) meetings where Philippine hotels and resorts presented their proposals to local tour operators in Chongqing. A dinner reception, which was attended by the Deputy Director-General of the Chongqing Culture and Tourism Development Committee Qin Dingbo, was likewise held.

Tourism Attaché Reyes gave updates on the Philippine Tourism Industry and highlighted the trend in recent years, particularly showing the increasing number of Chinese tourists arrivals into the Philippines.

Chinese tourists comprise the second most significant number of tourist arrivals in the past year. Tourism Attaché Reyes mentioned that the Philippines’ goal is for the number of Chinese tourists to reach the 2-million mark by 2021.

Videos of famous tourist destinations in the Philippines were played to entice tour operators.

Consul General to Chongqing Crescente R. Relacion said in his message that tourism is one of the avenues to promote people-to-people exchanges. He highlighted the steadily increasing number of visa applications being received by the Consulate General, mostly from Chinese tourists who wish to visit the Philippines for leisure.

Deputy Director-General Qin Dingbo stated that the business mission would enhance the interaction between the Philippines and Chongqing, as well as promote frequent tourism exchanges of both sides. He added that the Philippines, particularly Cebu and Boracay, are the famous tourist destinations for the people of Chongqing. Finally, he expressed his desire to have more exchanges and cooperation with the Philippines in the areas of tourist exchange, market development, and management of the tourism market.

Philippine talent and music were showcased through the performances by the Lira Filipina. Raffle draws for round-trip airfare to the Philippines and accommodations added excitement to the event. END
