VP Robredo Visits LA

LOS ANGELES 08 October 2019 — Vice President Maria Leonor “Leni” Robredo met Los Angeles City Mayor Eric Garcetti on 06 September 2019 at the Getty House, the official residence of the city mayor.

The Vice President was accompanied by Consul General to Los Angeles Adelio Angelito S. Cruz and the newly-elected officers of the University of the Philippines Alumni Association in Greater Los Angeles (UPAAGLA).

During the meeting, the Mayor introduced the Filipino-American officials he appointed namely, Deputy Mayor for Budget and Innovation Miguel Sangalang, Commissioner for Department of Water and Power Susana Reyes, and Commissioner for Board of Public Works Jessica Caloza.

Mayor Garcetti shared with the Vice President the priorities of his administration, particularly L.A.’s Green New Deal, which aims to reduce carbon emission by 50 percent by 2025, major infrastructure developments in the ports of Los Angeles and Long Beach, and the city’s hosting of the 2028 Olympics.

The Vice President raised the possibility of sharing best practices in ports operation and management between the ports of Manila and Los Angeles. Vice President Robredo was optimistic that operational efficiency in Manila Port would lead to economic gains for the Philippines and generate local jobs.

Vice President Robredo also introduced her flagship program entitled, “Angat Buhay,” with the goal of alleviating the plight of the impoverished with the help of private sector.

After the Meeting, Mayor Garcetti showed some portions of the Getty House to the Vice President and her delegation.

Later that afternoon, the Vice President graced the UPAAGLA Gala Night held at the L.A. Grand Hotel.

Also present during the Gala Night were the UP alumni from the Philippine Consulate General in Los Angeles, which include Information Officer Mary Grace “Joss” Leaño, and Labor Attaché Armi Evangel Peña, together with Protocol Officer Fernan Balicoco and Philippine Overseas Labor Office (POLO) Administrative Staff Miguel Ignacio Maria Castriciones.
