ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meet with 74th UN Assembly Officials

NEW YORK 10 October 2019 — Foreign Affairs Secretary Tedoro L. Locsin Jr., together with the ASEAN Foreign Ministers and ASEAN Secretary General Dato’ Lim Jock Hoi, met with United Nations Secretary General António Guterres and 74th Session of the UN General Assembly President Tijani Muhammad-Bande on 28 September 2019 for the annual ASEAN Foreign Ministers Meeting (AUMM) held at the UN headquarters at the sidelines of the 74th UN General Assembly.
The meeting commended the significant progress achieved across a broad range of activities under the 2016-2020 Plan of Action. The meeting also looked forward to the finalization of the Complementarities Roadmap and its notation by the Leaders at the ASEAN-UN Summit in November. The Roadmap shall serve as a guide for in implementing complementarity initiatives between ASEAN Community Vision 2025 and the UN2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development.
The Ministers likewise reaffirmed the importance of multilateralism and regionalism and the need for continued close collaboration with the UN to help maintain international peace and security and in addressing global challenges such as transnational crime, terrorism and violent extremism, trade tensions, poverty alleviation, climate change, environmental protection, and disaster resilience and management.
