PH Garners Third Place in Int’l Metallurgy Competition in Russia

MOSCOW 10 October 2019 — The Philippines made it to the podium as it bagged a third place finish in the recently concluded International Championship of Technology Strategy “Metal Cup: The Fourth Industrial Revolution” held in the Krasnoyarsk City on 15 to 20 September 2019.
The Philippine Team is composed of students from the of the University of the Philippines-College of Engineering, namely team leader Agustin Dominic Laplana, and team members Juan Raphael Contreras, Mae Pursia Orbon, Aaron Dave Tomas, Jolina Pagulayan and John Karlo Mercado. Two members of the faculty, Joy Marisol Maniaul and Karlo Leandro Baladad, served as coaches.
Top engineering schools from more than 11 countries joined the competition, where they were given a problem a month before the competition that required knowledge on metallurgy and Fourth Industrial Revolution technologies to solve.
“This is quite an achievement as they were up against a highly competitive field, which included teams from the best engineering schools of industrialized countries like Russia and China. We are very proud of these young men and women, and they represent the future of Philippine industrial technology,” Philippine Ambassador to Russia Carlos D. Sorreta said.
The Philippine Team visited the Philippine Embassy in Moscow on 21 September 2019 and met with Ambassador Sorreta. END
