Philippines, Thailand Hold Mini-Symposium on the 70 Years of Friendship

BANGKOK 15 October 2019 — The Philippine Embassy in Thailand, in collaboration with the Siam Society Under Royal Patronage, conducted an academic cultural event entitled “A Mini-Symposium on the 70 Years of Friendship” on 21 September 2019 at Siam Society building in Asoke.

The event was also held in celebration of the establishment of the two countries’ diplomatic relations.

President of The Siam Society, Thai Senator and Chair of the Senate Standing Committee on Foreign Relations Pikulkeaw Krairiksh formally opened the mini-symposium.

Ambassador to Thailand Mary Jo A. Bernardo-Aragon recalled the Treaty of Friendship signing in 1949, and Thammasat University Professor, Dr. Piemsak Hongjamrassilp talked about the contacts between the Philippines and Thailand from a historical perspective, focusing mainly on its relations during the 16th to 18th centuries.

Thai Senator and President of the Thailand-Philippines Parliamentarians Friendship Group General Thawip Netniyom, Thai Ministry of Foreign Affairs and Thailand Post officials, diplomatic corps members, the academe, and the Filipino community attended the event. END
