SAN FRANCISCO 15 October 2019 — Aimed at promoting the Philippines as an investment destination, the Philippine Consulate General in San Francisco hosted a “Spark 447 Tech and Start-up Mixer” at the Museo ng Lahing Filipino of the Philippine Center on 19 September 2019.

The event, co-hosted by PLDT, one of the pioneer partners of the Spark*Connect*Empower (SCE) movement, brought Executives from a variety of companies and start-ups, many of which have not yet established businesses in the Philippines.

“Now is the opportune time to invest in the Philippines, as exhibited by the strength of the country’s macroeconomic fundamentals,” Consul General to San Francisco Henry S. Bensurto Jr. shared during his welcome remark.

A video on the “Build-Build-Build” program was shown to showcase the large-scale current and pipelined infrastructure projects in the Philippines. The Philippines’ advantages in communications, especially with the high technology literacy of its young population, was emphasized.

Consul General Bensurto likewise noted that the Philippines is positioning itself as an avenue for growth for start-ups.  There is already a nascent yet fast growing start-up ecosystem, as evidenced by the growing number of start-ups emerging from the country.  Critical legislation, such as the Innovative Start-Up Act and the Ease of Doing Business Act have recently been signed to pave the way for this growth.

The Mixer is part of a series of activities under Spark 447, which serves as the economic component of the SCE movement. END
